Junque Jewelry Wreath

I have been busy crafting Junque Wreaths for a couple of weeks now. The "artist" event is next Thursday so the final push is on. Last night, inspiration struck and look what I did with a bunch of junk jewelry I picked up at an auction.

Vintage tinsel garland covers the form and vintage Christmas balls add a pop of color.I'm already plotting (I mean planning) a version in gold.

Now I have to figure out a way to box these so I could offer them on Etsy. Hmmm....

I Heart Auctions!

I love auctions. Adore them. Enjoy them. Look forward to them. My new obsession is the online auction (no, not EBAY - I am so over that). These are local online auctions where you bid and then pick up your items. Sometimes you get lucky and find out they are literally a few minutes from your home. Then you get even luckier when you are able to score this...

Oh my. Seeing as the cold weather approaches and I do not have any shows planned until April - I get to keep and decorate this baby without any guilt. One wonders if I'll be ready to give it up come Spring?

Thrifty Art

Do you thrift your art?

I often joke that one day I'm going to sell all the pictures/etchings/paintings I've acquired at thrift stores and yard sales to pay for one semester of books once my son begins college. Oh sure, it's fun to mock our thrift store art collection but there are gems in there. While I have yet (notice I wrote YET) to find the six figure diamond in the rough we have an eclectic collection that adds character to our home.
I'm starting off in the dining room and will show you room by room and picture by picture our collection. This is our newest arrival found for $3 at St. Vincent de Paul this weekend. Don't you just love amateur art?

Flea Market Love

A quick trip to a local flea market on Saturday morning netted this beauty. Isn't she pretty?

A run to the Goodwill afterwards provided the wooden fruit and silverplate trophy pitcher. The winner apparently came in second place in 1966.
Just like that they were gone. Sold the fruit and the scale at Burlington on Sunday morning. The pitcher did come back. I think I might have to put it to use for the winter.

Industrial Junque

Margo's Junkin Journal is hosting an Industrial Chic party and I had to get in on the action. Here's a bit of industrial going around my house.

Starting with our reading lamp on the nightstand.

The dresser in Boy Wonder's room. When we got it a million years ago it was UPS brown. I was young and rather stupid and painted it. Oh, how I wish I could go back and undo that!!
The desk in Boy Wonder's room. He's got a UPS brown lamp (see what I mean!) on there as well for task lighting. It has that fabulous office flourescent Hummmmmmmmmmmm when you turn it on (you can see more of his "office makeover" here).

The grate on my porch all decorated for Halloween. I had no idea how useful this would be when I picked it up in the blazing heat of a yard sale. At the time I thought I had heat stroke. Several holidays later I realize I was a genius. This baby gets changed around seasonally.

Up To My Elbows

I am officially up to my elbows in glitter, Santas, ornaments, Christmas balls, Knee Huggers, gnomes, icicles and the like. Time to crank out the Junque Wreaths. Love them. Love rediscovering the bits I've stashed away all year. Love that each one is different. Getting ready for a "Meet The Artists" event coming up. I also really need to get the price stamp out to add a few more things to the pile for Sunday's show in Burlington, KY. Weather looks great. I'll be in space #69 hoping for a windfall. Let's sell it all so I have an excuse to collect more (as if that EVER stopped me). Really though - I do need to begin parking in the garage again what with Winter on its way...

REDNESDAY

This week's offering for REDNESDAY is this fabulous chrome tray I found several years ago at a yard sale. It hangs proudly on the wall in my kitchen and combines so many things that I love.

Junque Gratitude

I have been a lucky girl of late. Look at the fabulous goodies I received from The Farmer's Wife yesterday. She put together some goodies from Junk Bonanza and was gracious enough to share.

Look what I found a few months ago at a yard sale. We've been putting a word a day on the refrigerator trying to stump each other. I love the symmetry of more of them finding their way from one pile of junk to my pile of junque!

Rednesday Finds

I thought I'd join the Rednesday fun this week. It's my first foray so I do hope you all enjoy.

Vintage "Buns" warmer. It even had its insert. Love the graphic.

This sweet toy was obviously made by hand for a special child. The floor is a linoleum remnant cut to fit. It just warmed my heart. Makes a fun base for some Fourth of July decorating.

Plaid. Red. Umm, does it get much better. Oh yes, the thermos and food carrier were still inside. $1 for the whole kit and caboodle. Woo hoo.

Christmas Beads

Many years ago I inherited several vintage beaded ornaments that my grandmother had made. Not the craftiest of girls it was a surprising glimpse into her interests. I figured she had read a magazine article how-to but last week at a thrift store and then two days later at a church rummage sale (I am so amused when sales seem to fall into a pattern of like minded items) I came across these kits.

I was able to get duplicates of a few so I kept those for my own crafting later this year and put these up on Ebay to share the score.
