Oscar Worthy Junque Jewels

I must have had Oscar night on the brain as I pulled out my tin of thrifted "jewels" to work on some pieces for next Sunday's craft show...
Vintage clip earrings became hair bling perfect for any red carpet event. Hopefully the high school girls will have prom on the brain as they shop!
And I'm thinking that rhinestones may be perfect for a certain Princess I know who turns the big 6 (HOW did that happen?) next Monday. She could scarcely decide which set to call her own.
Don't forget to head over here for my 100th post giveaway which ends on the first.

20th Century Love

I wait all year for this and got to spend part of my afternoon here...

A joyous set of sights. Drool worthy furniture, super groovy lighting and an almost endless list of thing I love. Sadly, I once again failed to snag my dream Heywood- Wakefield dining room table and chairs but there's always next year. And I already can't wait!

Weekend Junque & 100th Post Giveaway

Ah, the joys of half-price days at the local Goodwill! Take a look at a bit of my weekend haul...
Extremely large (as in HUGE) vintage syrup pitcher with bakelite handle, lovely crocheted cushion covers, pressed glass bowl with floral decorations, floral linen tablecloth (yes, it's got stains and holes but purple flowers = be still my beating heart), a chrome pedestal, a not at all old metal cloche and...
Painted poppies on a lidded jar. In red and orange. For $1. Happy girl dance. Silly, happy girl dance all the way home. And this is just a sample of the weekend finds. All of which leads me to...
My 100th post giveaway. 100? Really? It seems a bit auspicious and as such requires a bit of a do. So one lucky (at least I think they'll be lucky) winner will receive a bit of me in the form of:
One of my altered vintage almanacs, an altered ironstone platter, an altered chrome bowl and one of my upcycled jewelry necklaces. A small thanks for taking this journey with me and often times finding a kind comment to send along. Giveaway will run through March 1st at which time I shall coerce (I mean ask) one of my offspring to draw the name of our winner. Entry is easy and you've got the usual three ways to apply with the ability to get a total of four entries:
1) leave a comment here for one entry
2) become/be a follower for another entry and leave me comment letting me know you're "on board"
3)write a post on your blog about the giveaway - leave me a comment telling me you've done so and you'll receive TWO entries

A Rose By Any Other Name

Flowers and jewelry. The classic Valentine gift. What if you put the two together in one?!
Lucky for me the thrift gods were shining down on me Friday night and I found this fabulous vintage rose brooch. It is enormous. Over 4 inches long.

Feeling particularly generous the thrifts gods actually provided me with a veritable bouquet of jewelry!
Thrifty, vintage valentines are some of my favorites!
This is it folks. Check back for my next post. 100 posts equals one terrific giveaway for you!

Transformations

A little late night work on my weekend thrifts (see the originals here) has resulted in...
Clip boards became altered message centers. I put sheet music on the back of the boards which reminded me how much decoupage and I do not get along! I've placed one clip board in the laundry room for those pesky ortho reminder cards. Ah, the sound of my son clacking his retainer...
Some foam and flowers for the silver plate bud vase. And since I had the clippers out I went ahead and did the teapot and the larger silver piece. Note - I do not like the hydrangea stems. They did not go in easily and I am currently nursing the holes in my index finger!

The Day After...

Mental note for next year. The day AFTER the SuperBowl is perhaps not the best day to try and squeeze into my smallest pair of Banana Republic jeans! But of course I found them at the GW over the weekend and had to try them out.
We eat a lot here on SuperBowl day. It is the ONLY game of football we watch all year (well of course we actually watch a lot of Football as it is known to the rest of the world but that is a whole other game). Ok. So it is the only game of American football we watch all year.
The kids love it because it is also the one time a year that they are allowed to eat pretty much any, and all the junk they want. We go to the grocery store. They wander the aisles and pick out all the pre-processed, frozen, sugar high inducing junk (NOT junque) they can. And we eat it. For one evening of stupid food fun. Reality dawns the next day - with jeans!
Here are a couple of pics of some junque I picked up thrifting this weekend. The finds were pretty good. Check back later this week for my repurpose of these items! And my 100th post giveaway pile is growing nicely. Make sure to check out the post to see the goodies you can win!

Springtime On My Mind

Flowers...hmmm. Can you tell I've got Spring on the brain?
Bought a large lot of ironstone and white china pieces for various projects. Nestled in the box were these sweet demitasse cups and saucers.
A foam sphere, some flowers and they were all set. The pitcher was a recent Goodwill find.
A little pink has me dreaming and wishing for Spring. Sadly, out the window there is only white...
In the meantime keep visiting. I'm putting together a giveaway to celebrate my upcoming 100th post!
